IWAS Asian Wheelchair Fencing Championships 2016 concluded successfully today (10 April). China Team captured all gold medals of Women’s Individual Epee (Category A & B) and Men’s Epee Team events in the final day of tournament. They tops the medal tally with 11 golds, 6 silvers and 8 bronzes, while Hong Kong Team won 1 gold, 5 silvers and 9 bronzes in total.
For Women’s Individual Epee (Category A) event, Yu Chui Yee from Hong Kong received a bye at the Quarter-finals and competed with Zou Xufeng from China in the Semi-finals, who defeated Yu at the Semi-finals of Women’s Individual Foil (Category A) event previously. They played a very tight game with Zou coming out on top and won 15-10. Yu missed the chance for entering the finals again. Another fencer from China, Bian Jing reserved the place in the Finals after a 12-9 win in the match with her teammate, Zhang Chuncui. Eventually, Bian captured the gold with a 15-13 win that competed with Zou, while the bronzes went to Yu and Zhang.
During the Semi-finals of Women’s Individual Epee (Category B) event, Hong Kong fencer Chan Yui Chong played an exciting game with Zhou Jingjing from China again but lost 8-15, while Kim Jung Ah from Korea defeated Yao Fang from China with a 15-9 win. Zhou finally took the gold medal with a commanding 15-5 lead in the match against Kim. Chan and Yao captured the bronze medals.
Chung Ting Ching, Wong Tang Tat, Tam Chik Sum and Wong Chi Fai represented Hong Kong Team to compete in Men’s Epee Team event. They defeated Malaysia Team by 45-33 and entered the Finals. China Team overcame Hong Kong Team for a 45-22 victory, taking the last gold medal of the Championships, while Malaysia Team defeated India Team and won the bronze.
